Under 16's Event One

The Welsh snooker season began with the under 16s event one being played at Trecenydd snooker club in Caerphilly.

Young players from all over Wales took part all hoping to claim a place in the Welsh International team at the end of this four tournament series.

Callum Lloyd, a junior international last season and the pre tournament favourite was comprehensively beaten at the quarter final stage by occasional snooker player, but very good pool player, Travis Furnish of Cardiff. Travis arrived for the start of the tournament without a tip on his cue. A new one was hastily stuck on. It must have been a magic one as he then proceeded to carve his way through the opposition in fine style. His semi final against another Cardiff player Ethan Chichester was extremely close. Ethan played an excellent double on the final black only to see the cue ball go in off to lose him the match.

In the final Furnish showed tremendous temperament as he defeated Junior international Rhys Thomas (Trethomas) 3-1.

Rhys had reached the final aftera superb semi final win against young Swansea star Ieuan Davies.

The plate competition (for firstround losers) was won by Swansea's Joshua Jordan, who after a very tense match defeated the very promising 12 year old Lewis Samuel (Pontycymmer) two frames to one in the final.
