Under 14's Event One

A good entry of 29 players contested this first under 14's event of the new season. Several new faces were in the line up and many showed much promise, but it was Welsh Under 14s international Suraj Singh (Cardiff) who finally secured his first ever ranking event win.

Suraj, who has been promising a major breakthrough in junior events for a year or two, finally made it, romping through the tournament without dropping a frame, before defeating newcomer Tyler Rees (Llanelli) in the final.

Tyler did extremely well in his first Welsh Junior event, reaching the final with wins over the dangerous Brandon Leadbetter (who han earlier beaten pre tournament favouriteand number one seed Rhydian Stringer) and Keiron Port.

Suraj reached the final with very good wins over Swansea's Iestyn Thomas (quarter final) and homeclub player Taylor Morgan (semi's).

The race for a top six spot and a place in the Welsh Team to play Republic of Ireland in the annual"Celtic Challenge" match at the end of the season is already heating up.

Welsh national coach John Dobson said "the under 14s team were outstanding in last years Celtic Challenge regaining the magnificent cup. Judging by what I've seen today, I think Wales will be hanging on to it for some time."

The Plate

The plate competition was won by Bridend's Elliot Thomas, who defeated another newcomer Scott Rolfe (Llanelli) in a very close, good quality final by 2 frames to 1.
