Welsh Championship Semi-Final One - Result
1994 Welsh Amateur Champion Elfed Evans (Pwllheli) reachedthis year's final when he narrowly defeated Newport's Paul Davies by six frames to five at Merthyr Labour Club.
In a close, enjoyable match both players combined immaculate safety with consistent break building and several frames were decided on the pink and black.
The first four frames were shared. Davies won frames five and six to open up a two frame lead and looked certain to increase his lead until Evans cleared up with 36 to win frame seven.
Evans levelled the match with a 48 break in the next frame.
Both players made 30 breaks in the ninth but Evans took the frame and looked certain to win the match in frame ten before squandering two easy chances. Davies seized his opportunity and took the match into the decider.
Typical of a final frame the colours went safe and Evans eventually won the safety battle to come out on top.
