Under 21s event 2 Results
Darren Morgan's Red Triangle club played host to our Under 21's 2nd event of the season.
With 10 players in attendance, this meant 2 Last 16 matches, with Luke James beating Dainton Barrass 3 v 0 and Conor Caniff dispatching Jack Taylor by the same result.
Into the Quarter Finals and Luke found Liam Davies in steady form with Liam sealing the win 3 v 0. A great performance and wearing the smartest shoes at the event saw Zac Cosker beat Conor Caniff 3 v 0 in under an hour and Rhys Morgans overcame Jack Annalls by the same score line, however their 3rd frame was decided on the black. The tie of the round was between Bradley Ferguson and Ollie Briffett Payne, with Ollie being pegged back twice but held his nerve to secure the victory 3 v 2 on the black.
Into the Semis and Ollie's extra table time proved to be the undoing of Zac, with Ollie taking the match 3 v 0. In the other Semi, Rhys had taken the 1st frame only for Liam to hit back with 2 solid frames. Into the 4th and trailing by 34 with 35 on, Rhys potted a great red and attained position for the black he needed and cleared to blue however, although stroking it home to the green pocket saw the cue ball slide into the middle and handing the frame and match to Liam.
The final was a quality affair with Liam setting out his stall early with a great break of 53 and followed this up with a solid 2nd frame to lead 2 v 0. With his back against the wall, Ollie then produced the best single frame of the day, with an early 40 break and followed this up with a brilliant 52 to take the frame 92 v 0. Into the 4th frame then and leading 59 to 29 with 1 red left, Liam played a lovely safety shot putting Ollie in trouble. Ollie failed to hit the red, striking the pink off 2 cushions. This meant Liam was 36 up now with 35 left on. A miss couldn't be called and unfortunately for Ollie the cue ball had come to rest behind the yellow in baulk putting himself in a harder snooker than before. With a choice of a free ball, Liam declined and put Ollie back in from there. The one cushion attempt was too narrow to hit the red, but hit the black instead, handing frame and match to Liam.
A brilliant showcase of these player's ability and for those travelling to Portugal soon we wish them all good luck.
